The Lawson VIP Legacy Reception was designed to bring honor to our Founding Pastor William A. Lawson and his late wife Audrey Hoffman Lawson, it was held on May 10th, 2018 at the Ensemble Theater.
Rev. Lawson and Mrs. Lawson built the vision that set forth the establishment of several nonprofit 501 (C) 3 organizations, Wheeler Avenue Inner City Visions Inc., (WAICV), Wheeler Avenue Central City Comprehensive Community Center (WA5C’s) and Wheeler Avenue Triangle Ministries Inc., (WATMI). These nonprofits would be charged with the mission of helping those that have been affected by life’s most severe hardships and those who have the greatest need. That vision is continued under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Marcus D. Cosby, Pastor Cosby has challenged and encouraged the community to stretch further to assist those with the in need. WAICV is responsible to develop the funding opportunities through fundraising activities and through personal appeals from philanthropic individuals and organizations throughout into the community by providing more resources. WA5C’s provides social services such as housing for the homeless through the Madge Bush Transitional Living Center (MBTLC), it provide housing for 16 families. WATMI provides housing and facility infrastructure to entities and through the (AHLSR) Audrey Hoffman Lawson Senior Residences located adjacent to the Madge Bush Center.
The highlight of the event was the interview by CleRenda McGrady (Honorary Co-Chair) and Jonathan Howard (Event Co-Chair), Rev. Lawson stated that he wanted persons in the church to committed beyond the pews, and that is what drove them since the onset of their ministry. Another significant milestone occurred when the Honorary Co-Chairs Tracy and CleRenda McGrady presented the Executive Director a check for $20,000 dollars, and several persons came forward and pledged/contributed another $13,000 dollars.
